I’ve been a reporter, host, and producer for more than 15 years.
My work has taken me across Chicagoland and around the Midwest, plus a stint in the desert covering the Phoenix area and the greater Southwest. I’ve primarily worked in public radio and TV, but I’ve always been comfortable with a variety of formats, turnaround times, and media. My reporting has been picked up by national outlets including ProPublica, NPR, and PBS.
Television and Radio Hosting
I’m the host of a weekly news roundup show every Friday on Chicago’s PBS station, where I also appear as the main backup anchor for our nightly news program. I also spent several years as a reporter and host at Phoenix’s NPR station, where I regularly served as fill-in local anchor on Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Live and Breaking
I have extensive experience in a variety of high-pressure news settings, including both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, large demonstration, and too many election nights to count.
Investigative
I’ve covered a number of major topics in my investigative reporting work, including failed promises in the public housing system, safety lapses at an underfunded hospital, overworked bus and train operators, how campaign cash and personal connections influence politicians – all with an eye toward the way systems and their leaders treat underserved communities and people whose voices can go unheard.
Awards and Recognition
My work has been recognized with a number of awards, including by the local Society of Professional Journalists chapter and the Chicago/Midwest Emmys. I was also the 2025 recipient of The Arthur and Lila Weinberg Artist-in-Residence Fellowship for Independent Researchers at Chicago’s prestigious Newberry Library.
Feature Stories
My feature stories have appeared on NPR (a tale of my long-suffering Cubs fandom in the days before they broke their World Series drought) and PBS (a story of mini therapy horses, who are exactly as endearing as they sound.) I’ve also covered many local arts stories, showing off Chicago’s rich cultural landscape.
Writer
I’m a passionate reader and writer of both fiction and nonfiction, currently developing a nonfiction book chronicling a shocking pattern of arson for profit and the community organizers who rose up to stop it.
